Film Director - Lasse Hallström

Lasse Hallström

Lars Sven "Lasse" Hallström was born on the 2nd June 1946 and he is a Swedish film director and screenwriter. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for My Life as a Dog in 1985 and later for The Cider House Rules in 1999. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden. His father was a dentist and his mother was the writer Karin Lyberg from 1907-2000. His maternal grandfather, Ernst Lyberg, was the Minister of Finance in the first cabinet of Carl Gustaf Ekman (1926–1928) and leader of the Liberal Party of Sweden from 1930–1933.

The reason why I like the films that Lasse directs is because of one of the films that he directed was 'Safe Haven' which is one of my favourite films. It falls into the genres of drama, romance and thriller because of the story line is based on a girl that was in a abusive relationship and so she attempted to run away not knowing that she would fall in love with a single man and his children. They then go on living a happy life together after many unexpected things were involved such as their home being set on fire with her and the little girl in it and the girl almost gets killed by her ex when he finds here.  The reason why I like this film is because it was full of surprises and you see things that you do not think is going to happen which takes the audience by surprise.
